Packers Fall in NFC Title Game – Monday Sports Wrap

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team will face Northern Michigan University this afternoon at 5:07 in Marquette. The hastily-arranged non-conference series between the two rivals was set up Friday, after both teams lost their original weekend opponents to COVID-19 problems. The Huskies blanked the Wildcats 2-0 in the first game of the set Saturday.

College Basketball

A late comeback by the Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team fell just short yesterday, as they lost to Ferris 66-64. Makaylee Kuhn scored 16 for the Wildcats.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings lost 6-2 to the Chicago Blackhawks yesterday. Pius Suter had a hat trick for the Hawks – his first three NHL goals. Tyler Bertuzzi scored both Detroit goals. Jonathan Bernier took the loss in net.

The Wings visit the Dallas Stars tomorrow night. Coverage begins at 8:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons host the Philadelphia 76ers tonight. Coverage begins at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL

There’ll be no Super Bowl appearance for the Green Bay Packers this year. Green Bay fell to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-26 in yesterday’s NFC championship game. The Pack played from behind all afternoon, trailing by 18 in the third quarter before mounting a comeback. Brady threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns. He also tossed three late interceptions, but Green Bay was able to convert only one into a score. Aaron Rodgers passed for 346 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.

The Buccaneers will face the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs in the big game. KC claimed the AFC championship with a 38-24 win over the Buffalo Bills last evening. Patrick Mahomes threw three touchdown passes.

The Super Bowl will kick off at 6:30 on February 7th. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.

The Detroit Lions continue to build their new staff. There are reports that John Dorsey will join the front office in a senior personnel role. He’s a former general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cleveland Browns. Ray Agnew is apparently set to become Detroit’s assistant general manager. He’s currently the director of pro scouting for the Los Angeles Rams, where he worked with new Lions general manager Brad Holmes. Offensive line coach Hank Fraley will stay with the team.
