MLB – Tigers Beat Rangers
Justin Verlander pitched six innings of one-run ball, and the Detroit Tigers held on to claim a 7-4 victory over the Texas Rangers last night. Detroit sent 10 batters to the plate in the fifth inning, as they scored five runs. The big blow was a homer by Tyler Collins. Details are here.

Detroit designated hitter Victor Martinez left last night’s game with soreness in his left quad. He’ll be evaluated today.
The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off, and open a series at San Diego tonight. Jorge Lopez will make his major league debut against Tyler Ross.

Alex Freeman scored five goals, as the Finlandia men’s soccer team defeated Lincoln Christian University 8-1 yesterday. The Lions are now 5-1 this season. Details are here.

Jimmy Howard stopped 31 shots, as the Detroit Red Wings beat the Boston Bruins 3-1 in preseason NHL play last night. Tomas Jurco had a goal and an assist for Detroit. Details are here. The Wings will skate at Pittsburgh tomorrow night.

The Green Bay Packers rolled out to a big halftime lead, then held on to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 38-28 in last night’s NFL game.
