The Green Bay Packers overcame a halftime deficit, and won the NFC North Division title last night by defeating the Detroit Lions 31-24. The victory completed a six-game winning streak that brought Green Bay back from the brink of playoff elimination midway through the season. Detroit’s three-game losing streak cost the team its first division title since 1993. The Lions backed into the playoffs anyway, after the New York Giants defeated Washington.

In the game, Detroit did build a 14-10 halftime lead. Green Bay scored the only touchdown of the third quarter, then outscored the Lions 14-10 in the final stanza to seao the victory. Aaron Rodgers was sharp, completing 27 of 39 passes for 300 yards and all four of the Packers’ touchdowns. Matthew Stafford completed 26 of 41 passes for 347 yards. He threw for two scores, and had one pass intercepted. Green Bay outrushed Detroit 153-76.

As the NFC North Champions, the Packers will host the New York Giants Sunday afternoon at 4:40. As the sixth-seeded wild card team, the Lions will open the playoffs at Seattle Saturday evening at 8:15.

Anthony Mantha’s goal with a second remaining in regulation forced overtime, but the Detroit Red Wings eventually lost 5-4 to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the outdoor Centennial Classic yesterday afternoon. The game began as a defensive battle. Mantha gave Detroit the lead with a second-period goal. The Leafs appeared to put the game away by scoring four straight goals in the first 12 minutes of the third period, only to see the Wings respond with scores by Jonathan Ericsson and Dylan Larkin, setting up Mantha’s second tally of the night to force the extra period. Auston Matthews netted the game-winner in overtime. Jared Coreau took the loss for the Wings, who will skate at Anaheim Wednesday night. Faceoff will be at 10:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Andre Drummond had 25 points and 18 rebounds. The Pistons host the Indiana Pacers tomorrow night. Tipoff will be at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
