MTU freshman goaltender Angus Redmond has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week. Redmond stopped 48 of the 50 shots he faced in the Huskies’ sweep at Alaska last weekend. He leads the entire NCAA in goals-against average.

The Michigan Tech Blue Line Club will hold a lunch at noon on Friday in the ‘old’ Blue Line Room. The cost is $10.00 per person, and all are invited. RSVP to blueline@mtu.edu by Thursday at noon to reserve your seat.

The Detroit Red Wings host the Dallas Stars tonight. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Wings have put Tyler Bertuzzi and Brendan Smith on the injured list. Bertuzzi has a high ankle sprain, and Smith an MCL strain. NFL
The Green Bay Packers broke their four-game losing streak with a 27-13 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles last night. Aaron Rodgers completed 30 of 39 passes for 313 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Green Bay defense gave up a touchdown on the opening possession, then held the Eagles to just a pair of field goals. The Packers put the game away with a touchdown drive that used up more than half of the fourth quarter. Carter
Carter

MLB
Chris Carter slugged 41 home runs for the Milwaukee Brewers last summer, but apparently will not have a chance to repeat the performance. USA Today reports that the team has decided not to make him a contract offer for next season before Friday’s deadline. Carter is eligible for arbitration, and would probably be awarded a salary of 10-million dollars or more – four times what he made this season. If the Brewers don’t submit a contract offer, he’ll become a free agent.
