High School
In high school hockey Saturday…
- Jeffers downed Detroit Country Day 4-1 at the D-III Challenge at Gaylord.
- Calumet fell 5-2 to Gabriel Richard. Ben Anderson’s first-period goal gave the Copper Kings an early lead, but the Pioneers scored four times against Beau Jukuri in the second period to take control. Brendan Boberg added a late tally for the Kings.
- Houghton pounded Bay Port 9-1. Brody Donnelly and Jace DeForge each had two goals and two assists. Teegan Tapani, Jay Halonen, Noah Maillette, Connor Arko and Braden Kari also found the net.

- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City visits Lake Linden-Hubbell.

College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team exploded for six goals in the third period, and buried Bemidji State 9-5 Saturday. Logan Morrell and Elias Jansson each scored twice. Stiven Sardarian had a goal and four assists. Max Koskipirtti, Isaac Gordon, Jack Works and Alex Nordstrom each added a goal. Derek Mullahy made 23 saves.
Northern Michigan’s late comeback fell short in a 4-3 loss to Bowling Green Saturday. Jesse Tucker, Aidyn Hutchinson and Anthony Cliche scored for the Wildcats. Ryan Ouellette made 44 saves.
College Basketball
The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team buried Division III Northland College 106-43 Saturday. Six Huskies reached double figures in scoring, led by Matt Schmainda with 14-points.
The NMU men’s team shaded Upper Iowa 76-79 Saturday. Dylan Kuehl scored 19 points. Julien Smith added 15, including some critical points in the closing seconds to seal the victory.
GLHL
The Calumet Wolverines blasted the M and M Shamrocks 7-1 Saturday. Logan Rastello had a hat trick, and Aksel Loukus stopped 30 shots.
The Portage Lake Pioneers outscored the Mosinee Papermakers 8-5 Saturday.
NHL
The Red Wings entertain the Flyers Wednesday. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons entertain the Heat tonight.
NFL
The Lions’ late comeback fell short, as they suffered a 48-42 loss to the Bills. Buffalo shredded the injury-riddled Detroit defense for 559 yards of total offense. After a slow start, the Lions’ offense match the pace, amassing 521 yards – 494 from the passing of Jared Goff. Goff threw five touchdown passes. Detroit found the end zone three times in the fourth quarter, but the final score came with just 12 seconds remaining. Detroit falls to 12-2 on the season, and is now tied with the Eagles for the top spot in the NFC.
That decimated defense took three more serious hits yesterday. Cornerback Khalil Dorsey was carted off the field with a season-ending leg injury. Defensive tackle Alim McNeill left with a knee injury, and cornerback Carlton Davis departed with a jaw injury. Both of them could also miss the remainder of the season.
The Packers rode a quick start to a 30-13 victory over the Seahawks. Jordan Love threw two touchdown passes, as Green Bay improved to 10-4.
