Northern Michigan University dominated the Central Super NCAA/JNQ Series Nordic ski races at the Tech Trails over the weekend. Saturday, the Wildcats placed four men and five women in the classic final. Yesterday, the Wildcats finished second and third in the Masters 15k male standings, and took five of the top seven places in the women’s 10k. Tom Bye was Michigan Tech’s top performer, with a fourth place finish in the classic final. and a fifth place finish in the freestyle. Several members of the Copper Country Ski Tigers competed in the junior divisions. See full results from the competition here.

There were no late heroics for the Detroit Lions yesterday, as they fell to the New York Giants 17-6. The Detroit running game was almost nonexistent, with Dwayne Washington rushing for just 31 yards on 14 carries. Matthew Stafford and his injured finger completed 24 of 39 passes, but couldn’t find the end zone.

The Green Bay Packers gave up a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter, then beat the Chicago Bears 30-27 with a Mason Crosby field goal on the final play of the game. The game-winning kick was set up by a 60-yard pass play from Aaron Rodgers to Jordy Nelson. Ty Montgomery rushed for 162 yards and two touchdowns.

The combination of the Detroit loss and the Green Bay win leaves the Lions in first place in the NFC North Division by a game over the Packers, with two games left to play.

In last night’s game, the Dallas Cowboys edged the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 26-20.
