In high school hockey on Saturday, Hancock fell to Marquette 3-2 in overtime.
Jeffers split its games at the Soo Elks Showcase. On Saturday, the Jets scored three goals in the third period, and beat Big Rapids 5-2. Friday night, Jeffers fell to Sault Ste. Marie 8-0.
MTU
The 19th-ranked Michigan Tech hockey team scored twice in the final four minutes of regulation to salvage a 4-4 tie with Michigan State University yesterday. Malcolm Gould forced home the tying shot with 51 seconds remaining, and goalie Jamie Phillips on the bench in lieu of an extra attacker. Saturday night, the Huskies edged the Spartans 5-4 in overtime.
NMU
The NMU women’s basketball team lost 59-51 to Minot State yesterday at the Lake Superior State tournament. The Wildcats opened with a 60-55 victory over Minnesota-Duluth Saturday night.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings host the Boston Bruins Wednesday night. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
Landon Ferraro is no longer a Detroit Red Wing. Ferraro is nearly recovered from a knee injury. The Wings wanted to assign him to Grand Rapids, but had to clear him through waivers, first. He was claimed by the Boston Bruins.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons visit the Milwaukee Bucks tonight.
NFL
The Detroit Lions earned their second-straight victory yesterday, beating the Oakland Raiders 18-13. Matthew Stafford’s five-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter provided the winning margin. Stafford completed 22 of 35 passes for 282 yards.
The Green Bay Packers broke their three-game losing streak with a 30-13 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Aaron Rodgers threw two touchdown passes, Eddie Lacy rushed for 100 yards, and the Packers’ defense sacked Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater six times. The win moves Green Bay into a tie with Minnesota for first place in the NFC North.
In last night’s game, the Arizona Cardinals kicked a field goal with two seconds remaining, and edged the Cincinnati Bengals 34-31. Tonight, the Buffalo Bills play at New England. Kickoff is at 8:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
