Morning Sports for Monday, June 9th:
MLB: Tigers Fall Late to Red Sox
The Tigers held a 3-2 lead over the Red Sox heading into the ninth inning last night, but David Ortiz’ three-run homer off Joba Chamberlain brought them back to beat Detroit 5-3. Anibal Sanchez gave up two runs through six innings.
The Tigers open a series against the White Sox in Chicago tonight. Rick Porcello will face Hector Noesi. Hear the first pitch at 8:10 on AM 1400, WCCY.
Miguel Cabrera left the game with tightness in his left hamstring. He’s considered day-to-day. Catcher Alex Avila returned to the lineup yesterday, after sitting out a game because of a mild concussion he sustained Friday night. Team officials say they’ll watch him closely, in case symptoms recur.
Shortstop Danny Worth has accepted an assignment to Toledo. He was designated for assignment when the Tigers called up Eugenio Suarez several days ago. Worth could have opted for free agency.
Brewers Edge Pirates
Yovani Gallardo pitched seven shutout innings, as the Brewers shaded the Pirates 1-0 yesterday. The game’s only run came after a Pittsburgh fan grabbed a ball that Jonathan Lucroy hit to left field. The ball landed just fair… the bounced toward the stands. The fan interference call left Lucroy st second. He advanced to third on a sacrifice fly, and scored on a groundout.
The Brewers have today off, and open a series at New York against the Mets tomorrow night. Marco Estrada will start against Daisuke Matsuzaka.

– At Miller Memorial Field in Laurium, Nutini’s faces Pat’s Foods/ThermoAnalytics at 6:15. Auto Value takes on Coca Cola/Miller’s Recreation at 7:30.
– At Hurontown, The Goal Post meets North Pointe Trucking at 6:15. Osmose plays The Marley Bar at 7:30.
– At the Hancock Driving Park, McGann’s/Northern Auto takes on Erickson Crowley Peterson at 6:15… then faces 906/Pilgrim River Steakhouse at 7:30.

Judge Upholds Hockey Injury Award
A federal judge in Grand Rapids has upheld a ruling by a Swiss court that orders former Detroit Red Wing Kevin Miller to pay 1.6-million dollars in damages to a player he injured. The incident occurred during a game in a Swiss league in 2000. Miller hit Canadian player Andrew McKim in the back. McKim hit the ice face first, and suffered severe head injuries that ended his career. Miller was also convicted in a Swiss criminal court for the incident.
