MLB

The Tigers dropped both ends of their doubleheader against the Angels yesterday.

In the opener, Shohei Otani tossed a complete-game one-hitter, as L-A cruised to a 6-0 victory. Michael Lorenzen took the loss, giving up three runs over five innings. Zach Logue gave up the other three runs over the final four frames.

In the nightcap, Otani hit two home runs to power an 11-4 Angels victory. Both came off starter Matt Manning, who surrendered seven runs over five innings.

The Tigers open a series at Miami tonight. Reese Olson will pitch against Braxton Garrett. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

After the game, Logue was sent down to Toledo. Trey Wingenter, who returned from the injured list to serve as the extra player for game two of the doubleheader, will remain with Detroit.

The Brewers had yesterday off, and visit the Braves tonight. Adrian Houser will start against Yonny Chirinos.

Milwaukee has added first baseman and designated hitter Carlos Santana, via a trade with the Pirates. The 37-year-old veteran was hitting .235 with a dozen home runs. He is still regarded as an excellent defensive player. He’ll help cover for Rowdy Tellez, who has battled injuries for much of the season, and Jesse Winker, who has had a disappointing season. In exchange, Pittsburgh gets minor league infielder Jhonny Severino from the Brewers’ rookie-level team.
