MLB: Tigers Fall to Sox
Justin Verlander fell apart in the sixth inning last night, as the Tigers lost to the White Sox 8-2. The Sox scored seven runs in that inning, including six with two out. Six of the runs were charged to Verlander… the other to Ian Krol. Overall, Verlander was charged with seven runs, and saw his earned run average jump to 4.61.

The Tigers wrap up that series against the White Sox in Chicago tonight. Max Scherzer will face Chris Sale. Hear the first pitch at 8:10 on AM 1400, WCCY.

The Tigers have signed their first pick from the recent amateur draft. Outfielder Derek Hill will forego his scholarship at the University of Oregon. He gets a two-million dollar signing bonus. Detroit has already signed third-round pick Grayson Greiner. Fifth-round selection Shane Zeile says he expects to sign later this week, after he finishes his exams at UCLA.

Peralta Shuts Down Mets
Wily Peralta held the Mets to four hits before leaving in the seventh inning… and the Brewers beat New York 3-1 last night. After the game, Peralta flew to his home in the Dominican Republic to attend to some family business. Team officials didn’t say what that was, but indicated it was serious, and that they expected Peralta would rejoin the team in time for his next start.

The Brewers conclude that series at New York against the Mets this evening. Kyle Lohse will start against Jon Niese.
