The boys high school basketball state tournament finals will be played today in East Lansing. In Division Four, Southfield Christian will face Frankfort at 10:00 – hear the broadcast on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com. In Division One, Ypsilanti Lincoln will take on U of D Jesuit this afternoon. In Division Three, unbeaten Iron Mountain will face unbeaten Pewamo-Westphalia at 4:30 – hear the broadcast on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com. In Division Two, Hudsonville Unity Christian meets River Rouge this evening.
Finlandia
The Finlandia University softball team will wrap up its Florida trip with games against Simpson College and Saint Lawrence University today.
The Finlandia baseball team’s games at the Milwaukee School of Engineering this weekend have been canceled.
WCHA
Northern Michigan University opened the Western Collegiate Hockey Association tournament semifinals with a 6-1 loss to Bowling Green State University. That best-of-three series continues tonight in Marquette.
Lake Superior State University fell 2-1 to Minnesota State in the other WCHA semifinal opener. That set continues tonight in Mankato.
College Basketball
The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team upset Ashland University 64-57 in the opening game of the NCAA Division II tournament last night. The victory avenges the Wildcats’ loss to the Eagles in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship game last weekend. NMU will face top-ranked and unbeaten Drury University in the Midwest Regional Semifinals tonight at 8:30.
MTU
Former Michigan Tech head football coach Jim Kapp has died. Kapp passed away Wednesday at his home in Wooster, Ohio. Kapp coached for 12 seasons at MTU, compiling a record of 41-34-2 as head coach from 1973 to 1980. His 1974 team was unbeaten, and won the Northern Intercollegiate Conference title. Kapp was inducted into the Michigan Tech Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010. He finished his collegiate coaching career as the head football coach at the College of Wooster, where he had earned his bachelor’s degree.

The Wings have called defenseman Brian Lashoff up from Grand Rapids. Forward Filip Zadina has been sent down. Zadina appeared in nine games for Detroit. If he had continued with the Wings, he would have become eligible to be taken by the new Seattle franchise in the upcoming expansion draft.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons’ offense regained a bit of its footing last night, in a 111-97 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. Langston Galloway led Detroit with 23 points. Andre Drummond scored 19, and grabbed 23 rebounds. Reggie Jackson, who limped off the court with a turned ankle in Detroit’s loss Wednesday night, scored 20. The Detroit Tigers lost 7-3 to the Tampa Bay Rays in Grapefruit League action yesterday. Spencer Turnbull gave up a run over four innings. Ronny Rodriguez hit a home run. The Tigers will play the Pittsburgh Pirates this afternoon. Listen for Tigers baseball again this season on 99.3 The Lift.
The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the San Diego Padres 6-2 in Cactus League action yesterday. Brandon Woodruff threw five scoreless innings. The Brewers will split their squad for games against the Colorado Rockies and the Kansas City Royals this afternoon.
