High School

In boys high school basketball last night…

  • Houghton cruised past West Iron County 81-47. Isaiah Lawson scored 29 for the Gremlins, Luke Hill added 18 points, and Terrance Nolan had 12 points. 
  • The Hancock game at Calumet was postponed until tonight because of team illness. 
  • The Lake Linden-Hubbell game at Ontonagon was snowed out, and will be made up tonight.
  • Dollar Bay-Tamarack City dispatched Wakefield-Marenisco 79-52.
  • The Jeffers game at Watersmeet was snowed out – no make-up date has been announced.
  • Forest Park overpowered Bark River-Harris 77-39.

In girls action…

  • Chassell shaded Bessemer 34-29.
  • L’Anse shut down West Iron County 68-32.
  • The Jeffers game at Watersmeet was snowed out – no make-up date has been announced.

On the boys schedule tonight…

  • Hancock tips off at Calumet, with the JV game at 4:30 and the varsity at 6.

On the girls schedule tonight…

  • Calumet plays at Houghton. Coverage will begin around 7 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97-7 The Wolf.
  • Hancock welcomes Ironwood.
  • Dollar Bay-Tamarack City hosts Wakefield-Marenisco.
  • West Iron County entertains Ishpeming, with coverage on 99.1 WIKB.
  • Forest Park entertains North Dickinson.

In girls-boys doubleheaders…

  • Lake Linden-Hubbell plays at Ontonagon – girls at 6, boys at 7:30.
  • Baraga hosts Ewen-Trout Creek.

On a cold day at Powderhorn yesterday, the Houghton boys ski team finished second to Marquette. Ironwood was third. In the slalom, Eli Heathman finished fourth, Logan Niemi sixth and Brady Rubin ninth. In the giant slalom, Heathman was second, Niemi eighth and Rubin 10th. The girls team finished fourth, behind Marquette, Norway and Ironwood. Rachel Sun took 10th place in the slalom. 

In high school hockey tonight…

  • Calumet skates at Jeffers. Coverage will begin at 6:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.

College Basketball

Both Northern teams earned victories over Roosevelt University last night…

  • The women outscored the Lakers 60-56. Alyssa Nimz had 18 points for the Wildcats.
  • The men’s team claimed a 77-55 win. Jackson Dudek scored 18 points.

Michigan Tech men’s freshman guard Ty Fernholz has been named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. He averaged 19 points per game in Tech’s recent victories over Northern Michigan and Roosevelt. He also leads the league in shooting three-pointers.

NHL

The Red Wings host the Sharks tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons held off the Knicks 124-119 last night. Cade Cunningham scored 36 points. Malik Beasley added 22, and hit a pair of three-pointers in the final minute to seal the win. 

The Pistons have won 10 of their last 12 games, and host the Pacers Thursday.

NFL

In the final game of the wild card round of the NFL playoffs last night, the Rams stifled the Vikings 27-9.

That sets up the divisional round this coming weekend…

  • In the NFC, the Lions host the Commanders Saturday at 8, and the Rams visit the Eagles Sunday at 3.
  • In the AFC, the Chiefs entertain the Texans Saturday at 4:30, and the Bills welcome the Ravens Sunday at 6:30.

All of the games will be broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
