Fast Pitch Softball
In Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball action last night, Northern Michigan Land Brokers earned two victories over Crush/Diamond House/Baby E’s, 12-3 and 11-9. Mel Baker was the winning pitcher in the first game, with relief help from Isabelle Cleary. Anna Gaffney hit an out-of-the park home run, and Raili Therrian had a double and a single for NMLB. Kierstyn Coedere had a triple for Crush. In the second game, Elisa Isaacson was the winning pitcher. She and Isabelle Cleary each hit triples. Fayah Zapolnik had a double and Aydra Williamson had a triple for Crush.

In Copper Country Slow Pitch Softball League play last night…
– Harter’s Carquest downed Bucko’s/Labatt 21-14. DJ Coponen, Joel Michaelson and Joe Rivest each had four hits for Harter’s. Bucko’s/Labatt then fell to Coca Cola/Monte Carlo 15-13.

– Auto Pro/ThermoAnalytics dominated Luigi’s 21-6. Logan Rastello and Jim Larsen each homered for Auto Pro.

The Detroit Tigers couldn’t hold an early lead, and lost 8-7 to the Pittsburgh Pirates last night. The Tigers scored twice in the first, then added five more in the third inning on home runs by Brandon Dixon and Harold Castro – his first in the majors. Jordan Zimmermann threw just four innings in his return from the injured list, giving up three runs. Nick Ramirez relieved him, and was charged with two runs in the fifth, and three in the sixth.
The Tigers have today off, and visit the Cleveland Indians tomorrow night. Matthew Boyd will start against Trevor Bauer. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
To make room for Zimmermann’s return to the roster, outfielder Victor Reyes was sent back to Toledo.
The Milwaukee Brewers dropped an 8-7 decision to the San Diego Padres last night. Milwaukee trailed by one heading into the seventh inning. Yasmani Grandal’s three-run homer gave them the lead, but the Padres responded with a three-run homer by Franmil Reyes off Jeremy Jeffress in the bottom of the seventh to claim the win.
After having been swept in San Diego, the Brewers host the Cincinnati Reds tonight. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Tanner Roark.
NBA
The NBA Draft will be held tonight. The Pistons have the 15th and 45th picks by virtue of their standings position last season. They also added the 30th pick yesterday, in a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks. Milwaukee gets Jon Leuer. Detroit gets their first-round pick, and forward Tony Snell.
