NHL
The next Detroit Red Wings game will probably take place December 1st. That’s the tentative date that’s been set for the opening of the 2020-2021 NHL season. The Wings didn’t qualify for the expanded Stanley Cup playoffs that will – COVID-19 pandemic permitting – begin July 30th.
If all goes according to plan, the last possible day of the Stanley Cup finals would be October 2nd. Free agency will begin seven days after the last Stanley Cup game. The draft would take place October sixth. Training camps would open November 17th. Play would start December 1st.
MLB
Major League Baseball now has the full results of its first round of COVID-19 testing. 58 players and eight staff members tested positive. 10 more players have been diagnosed so far in the second round. Some members of the Detroit Tigers are on that list, but we don’t know who, or how many. MLB is not releasing the names of those who are infected.
NFL
The Detroit Lions have agreed to terms with the team’s two fifth-round choices in the recent amateur draft. University of Wisconsin wide receiver Quintez Cephus and New Mexico State running back Jason Huntley both revealed their signings on their social media feeds. Detroit’s top draft pick, Ohio State University cornerback Jeff Okudah, has not yet signed.
College
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has begun to affect the upcoming college sports season. The Ivy League has become the first NCAA Division I conference to cancel all of its fall sports.
