Finlandia
Two Finlandia University soccer players have been honored by the American Collegiate Athletic Association. Zach Wickman was named the Men’s Defensive Player of the Week. Wickman blocked three shots, had at least eight tackles that resulted in turnovers and scored a goal in the Lions’ wins over Great Lakes Christian and Northland. Hancock’s Molly Berg was named Women’s Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. In three games, she blocked seven shots, had numerous tackles that forced turnovers, and scored her first collegiate goal.
MTU
Negaunee basketball standout Clara Johnson has made a verbal commitment to play college ball at Michigan Tech. Clara’s mom, Shelly, played at MTU from 1993 to 1997. Johnson earned All–U.P. Second Team honors last season with the Miners.
MLB
The Arizona Diamondbacks outslugged the Colorado Rockies in the 11-8 in the National League Wild Card play-in game last night. Both American League Divisional series begin tonight, with the Yankees facing the Cleveland Indians, and the Boston Red Sox taking on Justin Verlander and the Houston Astros.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons squandered an 18-point halftime lead, and dropped their preseason opener 108-106 last night. Andre Drummond led Detroit with 16 points and 15 rebounds. We’ll broadcast selected Pistons games this season on 99.3 The Lift.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings open the regular season tonight at home against the Minnesota Wild. Hear the game on 99.3 The Lift.
