In girls high school basketball action last night…
Calumet Copper Kings Logo– Unbeaten Calumet cruised past Escanaba 45-33.
– Hancock shut down L’Anse 50-28.
– Houghton dispatched Ontonagon 53-34.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City edged Chassell 36-35.
– Jeffers squeaked past Wakefield-Marenisco 43-41.
– Ewen-Trout Creek smothered Watersmeet 42-18.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell defeated Baraga 60-48.

In last night’s only boys game, Dollar Bay-Tamarack City outscored Bessemer 72-67.

In boys play tonight…
Houghton Hancock Logos– Hancock visits Houghton for the annual Wing Ding game. It’s a 6:00 tip-off. Our pregame coverage will begin around 5:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com
– Calumet hosts West Iron County.
– L’Anse plays at Lake Linden-Hubbell.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City entertains Ontonagon.
– Jeffers tips off at Chassell.
– Baraga welcomes Republic-Michigamme.

In high school hockey last night…
– Calumet crushed Negaunee 10-1 in a game that ended after two periods because of the mercy rule. Tyler Rautio, Rory Anderson and Ryan Nelson each scored twice. Nelson also had four assists, and Robert Erkkila had five assists.
– L’Anse fell to Kingsford 4-3 in overtime.

Tonight…
– Hancock plays at Houghton in the annual Wing Ding game. Face-off is at 7:30 – we’ll join the game right after the Wing Ding basketball game on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
– L’Anse welcomes Ashwaubenon.

Tomorrow, Houghton entertains Escanaba. Our pregame coverage will begin around 12:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team opened up a big early lead, and raced past Hillsdale 68-41 last night. Danielle Blake led the Huskies with 15 points and seven rebounds. The win gives Tech sole possession of first place in the GLIAC North Division.

The Huskies men’s team led by 13 at halftime, but went cold in the second half, and lost to Hillsdale 66-61. Kyle Monroe and Luke Heller each scored 19 for MTU.

Both Tech teams play at Saginaw Valley State tomorrow.

The Michigan Tech hockey team has the weekend off.

NMU
The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team knocked Saginaw Valley State out of a share of the GLIAC North Division lead with a 67-61 upset win last night.  The Wildcats men’s team made an upset bid, too – leading by 17 points at halftime before falling 67-66. Both Northern teams play at Hillsdale tomorrow.

The NMU hockey team skates at Ferris State tonight and tomorrow night.

Finlandia
Both Finlandia basketball teams host Crown College tonight at the Paavo Nurmi Center. The men’s game tips off at 6:30, and the women’s game at 8:30. Both Lions teams welcome Minnesota-Morris tomorrow. The men’s game starts at 4:00, and the women’s contest at 6:00.

The Finlandia men’s hockey team skates at Lake Forest College tonight and tomorrow. The women’s hockey team visits St. Norbert College tonight and tomorrow.

GLHL
The Calumet Wolverines entertain the Mosinee Papermakers tonight at 7:30 at the Colosseum. The Portage Lake Pioneers will host the Papermakers tomorrow evening at 7:30 at Dee Stadium.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings host the Colorado Avalanche tonight. Face-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons play at Washington tonight.
