High School

In high school boys basketball last night…
• Houghton buried L’Anse 86-26
• Jeffers stifled Calumet 69-18. Levi Frahm scored 21 for the Jets, and Landon Larson chipped in 14.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City shaded Hancock 50-47.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell shut down Baraga 67-16. Gabe Popko led the Lakes with 18 points, and Danny Marcotte added 15.
• Ontonagon fell to Wakefield-Marenisco 58-40.
• Ewen-Trout Creek lost at Ironwood 50-37.

In girls action last night…
• Calumet held L’Anse to just 10 points in the first half, and went on to a 47-31 victory. Caitlyn Strom led the Copper Kings with 14 points. Mylee Londo had 11 for the Purple Hornets. Hear the game replay here.
• Hancock dumped Ontonagon 49-17.
• Ewen-Trout Creek edged Ironwood 36-35.

On the girls schedule tonight…
• Houghton travels to Negaunee.
• Calumet plays at West Iron County.
• Baraga visits Lake Linden-Hubbell.
• Chassell tips off at Dollar Bay-Tamarack City.

In high school hockey tonight…
• Houghton entertains Saginaw Heritage. Coverage will begin at 6:40 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.
• Calumet hosts University Liggett. Coverage will start at 6:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.

In hockey tomorrow…
• Hancock welcomes Saginaw Heritage for a 1:00 game.
• Jeffers hosts University Liggett in a 1:00 contest.

In high school swimming today…
• Houghton competes at Gladstone.

College Basketball

The Michigan Tech women’s team overcame a slow start, then held off Saginaw Valley State for a 56-51 victory. The Huskies held the Cardinals to just eight points in each of the second and third quarters. Isabella Lenz paced Tech with 16 points and seven rebounds. It was the 100th career win for MTU coach Sam Clayton.

The Huskies men’s team lost a 78-77 nail-biter to Saginaw Valley State, despite a career-high 39 points from Marcus Tomashek.

Makaylee Kuhn scored 30, as the Northern Michigan women’s team outscored Wayne State 81-66.

The Wildcats men’s team pulled out a 75-69 victory over the Warriors. Brian Parzych and Dylan Kuehl each scored 24.

Both Tech teams will host Wayne State tomorrow, with the women’s tip-off at 1:00, and the men’s at 3:00.

Both NMU teams will entertain Saginaw Valley State.

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team faces Northern Michigan tonight at 7:07 at the SDC, and tomorrow at 6:07 in Marquette.

GLHL

The Portage Lake Pioneers will face the Marquette Mutineers tomorrow at 3:30 at the Ontonagon Ice Rink.

The Calumet Wolverines visit the Eagle River Falcons tomorrow night.

NHL

The Red Wings opened a four-goal lead, but eventually lost to the Sharks 6-5 in overtime last night. After a scoreless first period, Kim Kostin found the net in the second period. A 49-second flurry several minutes later produced two goals for Michael Rasmussen and one for Lucas Raymond. After San Jose reeled off four straight to tie the contest, Dylan Larkin put Detroit back on top midway through the third period. After the Sharks pulled their goalie, Tomas Hertl’s wrister with 89 seconds left in regulation forced overtime. Mikael Granlund netted the game-winner 37 seconds into the extra stanza. Ville Husso made 30 saves, and took the loss in net.

The Wings host the Senators tomorrow night. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons will try to break their long losing streak at Orlando tonight. Coverage will start at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit will be without center Jalen Duren for at least a couple of weeks. He sprained an ankle late in Wednesday’s loss to the Grizzlies.

NFL

In last night’s NFL game, the Patriots scored three first-half touchdowns, then held off the Steelers 21-18. 

The Lions visit the Bears in a 1:00 game Sunday on 99.3 The Lift.

The Packers face the Giants Monday night in New York.

MLB

Former Tigers third baseman Jeimer Candelario has signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Reds. Cincinnati also get a club option for a fourth season.
