MTU Women Win at FSU, Men Fall – Friday Sports Wrap

High School
Snow wiped out the entire local high school sports schedule yesterday. Some make-up dates for the postponed games have been announced. In boys basketball…
– The Hancock at Dollar Bay-Tamarack City game will be played January 24th. We will broadcast it on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
– The Calumet at West Iron County contest will be made up February 20th.
– The Lake Linden-Hubbell at Jeffers match has been moved to February 5th.
– The L’Anse at Chassell game will be played January 23rd.

On the girls basketball schedule tonight…
– Houghton entertains Westwood. Our pregame show will begin around 7:00 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
– Hancock tips off at Jeffers.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City hosts Republic-Michigamme.
– Chassell welcomes Wakefield-Marenisco.
– Baraga entertains Bessemer.
– Ewen-Trout Creek plays at Ontonagon.

In hockey, Calumet welcomes U-D Jesuit for games tonight and tomorrow.

The schedule for the upcoming MIHL Prep Hockey Showcase at Trenton has been announced. On Friday, February 2nd, Calumet will face Flint Powers at 11:30, Hancock will meet Plymouth at 11:50, and Houghton will play Cranbrook at 4:00. On Saturday, February 3rd, Calumet will take on Warren de la Salle at 8:20, Hancock will face off against Brighton at 8:40, and Houghton will play U of D Jesuit at 2:50.

The Houghton swim team will compete at Marquette tomorrow.

Finlandia
Both Finlandia University hockey teams are at home this weekend. The women face Wisconsin-Superior this afternoon at 2:00, and tomorrow afternoon at 4:00. The men take on Lawrence University tonight at 7:15. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com. They’ll face Marian University tomorrow at 7:00.

The Finlandia men’s basketball team plays at Bay College tomorrow afternoon.

MTU
The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team rallied to earn a narrow 80-77 victory over Ferris State last night. Brenna Heise’s layup with 30 seconds remaining put the Huskies on top for good, and two free throws by Lindsay Winter sealed the win. The 16th-ranked Huskies outscored the Bulldogs by 10 points in the fourth quarter. Heise led Tech with 19 points.

The MTU men’s team dropped its fifth straight game last night, falling 85-66 at seventh-ranked Ferris. The Bulldogs held Kyle Monroe to just seven points. Dawson Bilski came off the bench to lead Tech with 11.

Both Huskies teams will play at Lake Superior State tomorrow.

The Tech hockey team has the weekend off.

NMU
The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team defeated Lake Superior State 79-63 last evening. The Wildcat men fell to the Lakers 78-60. Both Northern teams play at Ferris State tomorrow.

The NMU hockey team hosts Bowling Green tonight and tomorrow night.

GLHL
Both the Calumet Wolverines and the Portage Lake Pioneers are off this weekend.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons visit the Chicago Bulls tomorrow evening.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings return to action tomorrow afternoon at Pittsburgh. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
The NFL Divisional playoff round will take place this weekend. Tomorrow, the Falcons meet the Eagles at 4:35, and the Titans play the Patriots at 8:15. On Sunday, the Jaguars face the Steelers at 1:05, and the Saints take on the Vikings at 4:40. Hear all the games on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB
The Detroit Tigers have avoided arbitration with catcher James McCann by signing him to a one-year, 2-4-million dollar contract.
