In high school hockey Friday night, Jeffers fell to Sault Ste. Marie 8-0 at the Soo Elks Showcase. The Jets play Big Rapids today at 1:00.

MTU
The eighth-ranked Michigan Tech women’s basketball team cruised past Minnesota-Crookston 85-62 at the Radisson Hotel Minneapolis St. Paul North Classic Friday night. The Huskies led by 30 at the end of the third quarter. Brenna Heise led a balanced Huskies attack with 20 points. Kelli Guy added 18. The Huskies face the host Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears this evening.
The Huskies hockey team skates at Michigan State tonight and tomorrow afternoon.
NMU
The Northern Michigan University hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with Minnesota State Friday night. The Wildcats host the Mavericks again tonight.
The NMU women’s basketball team is at the Lake Superior State tournament this weekend. The Wildcats will face Minnesota-Duluth tonight, and Minot State tomorrow afternoon.
Finlandia
The Finlandia University men’s hockey team earned its first victory of the season Friday night with a 4-3 overtime triumph over Lawrence University. The Lions took a 2-0 lead into the third period, but the Vikings rallied to force the extra period. Bryce Mitzel scored the game winner a little over a minute into the overtime period. The Lions host the Vikings again tonight at 7:15 at the Houghton County Arena. The women’s hockey team hosts Adrian College this afternoon at 4:00.
The Finlandia men’s basketball team lost at Wisconsin-Platteville 82-62 Friday night. The Pioneers put the game away early by scoring 50 points in the first half. Isaac Tucker led the Lions with 14 points. Finlandia plays at Wisconsin-Whitewater tomorrow evening.
The Finlandia women’s team opened the Paul F. Knueppel Classic in Milwaukee with a 68-40 loss to Wisconsin-Lutheran Friday night. Gabby Hebert had 10 points for the Lions. who were outscored 46-16 in the second and third quarters. Finlandia will face Martin Luther College this afternoon.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings edged the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 Friday night. Dylan Larkin scored the game-winner midway through the second period, and Petr Mrazek made 35 saves. The Wings skate at St. Louis tonight. Faceoff is at 8:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 96-86 Friday night. Andre Drummond led Detroit with 21 points and 11 rebounds. The Pistons host the Washington Wizards tonight.
NFL
The Detroit Lions host the Oakland Raiders tomorrow. Kickoff is at 1:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY. The Green Bay Packers visit the Minnesota Vikings in a 4:25 game.
