MLB
The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired pitcher J.C. Mejia from the Cleveland Guardians. Mejia struggled as a starter last season, compiling a 1-7 record with an 8.25 ERA. He was better in a half-dozen relief appearances, with 11 strikeouts in 10 innings, and a 1.80 ERA. The Guardians will receive cash in exchange.
Former Brewers closer Doug Jones has died. Jones was an anomaly as a closer. His fastball barely topped 80 miles per hour, yet his pitches were so hard to hit that he racked up 303 career saves for eight different teams, and made five all-star rosters. Jones was 64 years old, and passed away from COVID-19 complications.
