MTU Soccer Picked for 5th in GLIAC – Thursday Sports Wrap

MLB

The Chicago White Sox scored in six different innings, and defeated the Detroit Tigers 8-1 yesterday. Starter Tyler Alexander struck out six, but gave up nine hits before leaving in the fifth inning, and was charged with five runs. Detroit’s only score came in the ninth, when Travis Demeritte tripled home Victor Reyes.

The Tigers open a home set against the Kansas City Royals tonight. Matthew Boyd will pitch against Jorge López. Because of Detroit Lions football, Tigers pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on KBear 102.3.

Detroit’s attempt to reclaim the career of reliever Drew Rosenthal has ended. The former All Star is trying to come back from Tommy John surgery, but has battled control problems. After 11 walks and a hit batter in nine innings of work, Rosenthal was designated for assignment yesterday.

The Milwaukee Brewers completed a sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates, with an 8-3 victory last night. Keston Hiura hit two home runs. Five Milwaukee pitchers held the Bucs to six hits, and struck out nine.

The Brewers have today off, and host the Texas Rangers for an interleague set beginning tomorrow. Gio Gonzalez will start against Kolby Allard.
