MTU Soccer Blanked at St. Cloud – Monday Sports Wrap

The Michigan Tech women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at St. Cloud State yesterday afternoon. Although Tech was outshot 12-3, the game’s only score came on a penalty kick in the 24th minute.

MLB
The Cleveland Indians scored in seven different innings, and pounded the Detroit Tigers 11-1 yesterday. Chad Bell pitched into the fifth inning in his first major league start. He was charged with five runs on eight hits. Cleveland’s Jose Ramírez tied a major-league record with five extra-base hits, including home runs from each side of the plate.

The Tigers host the Kansas City Royals this afternoon. Artie Lewicki will make his major league debut for Detroit. Jakob Junis will counter for KC. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Domingo Santana hit two home runs, as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Washington Nationals 7-2 yesterday. Four Milwaukee pitchers held the Nats to just two hits over the first eight innings. Junior Guerra gave up a two-run homer in the ninth.

The Brewers begin a series at Cincinnati today. Chase Anderson will pitch against Homer Bailey.

The Cubs lost yesterday, so Milwaukee is now three-and-a-half games back in the National League Central Division race.

NFL
The Green Bay Packers have shuffled linebackers. They signed 11-year veteran Ahmad Brooks, who made two Pro Bowls while playing most of his career with the San Francisco 49ers. The Pack traded linebacker Jayrone Elliott to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a draft choice, and claimed linebacker Chris Odom off waivers from the Atlanta Falcons. Green Bay also placed offensive lineman Don Barclay on injured reserve.

The Detroit Lions lost young quarterback Brad Kaaya to the Carolina Panthers via waivers. They also lost tight end Khari Lee to the Buffalo Bills. Detroit claimed offensive linemen Zac Kerin and Brian Mihalik.
