MLB
The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and will open a series in Kansas City tonight. Anibal Sanchez will pitch against Jason Vargas. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers were also off yesterday, and begin a home set against the Cincinnati Reds this evening. Zach Davies will start against Deck McGuire.

The Cubs won last night, and now lead the Brewers by six games in the National League Central Division. Any win by Chicago, or loss by Milwaukee, gives the Cubs the division title. The Rockies lost, and lead Milwaukee by a game and a half in the race for the final National League wild card playoff berth.

NFL
In last night’s NFL game, the Dallas Cowboys scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, and defeated the Arizona Cardinals 28-17. If you played The Wolf Pro Football Challenge, you must have selected at least 11 games correctly to be eligible to be this week’s winner.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings skated past the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 last night in exhibition play. Michael Rasmussen and Anthony Mantha each scored their second goals of the preseason. Jimmy Howard stopped 11 of 12 shots over two periods of work. Tom McCollum stopped all seven shots he faced in the third period. Listen for regular-season games on 99.3 The Lift.

The Wings trimmed their roster by nine players yesterday. All will report to the Grand Rapids Griffins, including former Northern Michigan University forward Dominik Shine. Over the weekend, former MTU standout Shane Hanna was released by the Dallas Stars. Former Tech goalie Jamie Phillips was assigned by the Winnipeg Jets to their minor league team in Manitoba. Former Tech goalie Angus Redmond was sent to the Anaheim Ducks’ minor league affiliate in San Diego.

MTU
The Michigan Tech hockey team has been picked to finish third in both Western Collegiate Hockey Association preseason polls. Both the Mankato Free Press Coaches’ Poll and the UAHHockey.com Media Poll selected Minnesota State to win the MacNaughton Cup, with Bemidji State as runner-up. Defenseman Mark Auk was named to the Preseason All-WCHA first team by the coaches, and second team by the media. Joel L’Esperance was named to the media second team, and Mitch Reinke to the coaches’ second team.

Both polls picked Lake Superior State to finish sixth, and Northern Michigan University to place seventh. See the full poll results here.

GLIAC
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is adding another school. Wisconsin-Parkside will join the league as a full member, beginning next fall. That will bring GLIAC membership to 12 schools.
