MTU-MSU Hockey Games Delayed – Friday Sports Wrap

MTU

Michigan Tech’s hockey games against Minnesota State University this weekend have been pushed back. Instead of being played tonight and tomorrow night at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena, the Huskies will host the Mavericks Sunday at 6:07 and Monday at 5:07.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, fans will not be admitted to the games.

Neither school offered a reason for the postponement.

Although both Tech and MSU are members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, these are considered non-conference games. The league matchup between the two teams will take place in Mankato in January.

Northern Michigan University’s scheduled games against Bemidji State this weekend have been canceled because of COVID-19 issues with the Wildcats. NMU hopes to begin its season against Minnesota State next weekend.

GLHL

The three Upper Peninsula members of the Great Lakes Hockey League will play games only against each other this winter.

The Calumet Wolverines, Portage Lake Pioneers and Marquette Mutineers released a tentative schedule this week. Assuming COVID-19 restrictions permit, the campaign will begin the 18th and 19th, with a home-and-home series between Calumet and Portage Lake. Those will be the only games in December. There will be several contests in January, and a heavier schedule from February through early March.

Despite not holding an official 2020-2021 season, the GLHL is still planning its postseason tournament in late March. The Gibson Cup series between the Pioneers and Wolverines will begin April 2nd.

NFL

Detroit Lions running back D’Andre Swift has cleared concussion protocol, and could be ready to play in Sunday’s game against the Bears. Swift did not practice yesterday. Receiver Kenny Gollady continues to be sidelined, but receiver Danny Amendola did work out with the team, after missing two weeks with a hip injury.

Detroit’s game in Chicago kicks off Sunday at 1:00 on 99.3 The Lift. The Green Bay Packers host the Philadelphia Eagles in a 4:25 contest.

Please have your picks in The Wolf Pro Football Challenge turned in by noon today.
