MTU Men’s Hoops Wins, but Women Fall – Monday Sports Wrap

Finlandia

Both Finlandia basketball teams suffered losses at Wisconsin-Platteville yesterday. The men’s squad fell 112-49, and the women lost 78-44.

GLIAC

The MTU women’s basketball team close the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover with a 75-71 loss to William Jewell College yesterday afternoon. Baillie McGirk had 15 points.

Northern Michigan University’s women’s team lost to Lewis University 65-41.

The Huskies men’s team came wrapped up the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover by defeating Lewis University 63-54. Monroe scored 23, and grabbed 10 rebounds.

NMU’s men’s team lost to McKendree 69-46 yesterday.

NHL

Anthony Mantha’s goal with 31 seconds remaining lifted the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights last night. Andreas Athanasiou and Madison Bowey also scored for Detroit. Jonathan Bernier faced just 19 shots.

The Wings have won two straight, and visit the Anaheim Ducks tomorrow. Coverage begins at 9:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons will host the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight. Blake Griffin could make his season debut, after missing the opening portion of the schedule with injuries.

NFL

Yesterday, the Detroit Lions lost 20-13 to the Chicago Bears. Filling in for the injured Matthew Stafford, Jeff Driscoll completed 27 of 46 passes for 269 yards, a touchdown and one interception.

Stafford was hurt late in last week’s game. Doctors say he has several broken bones in his back, and refused to clear him to play.

The Green Bay Packers downed the Carolina Panthers 24-16. Aaron Jones ran for 93 yards and three touchdowns.

Last night, the Minnesota Vikings got past the Dallas Cowboys 28-24.

Tonight, the Seattle Seahawks visit the San Francisco 49ers. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
