The hockey playoffs begin tomorrow. Calumet faces Jeffers at 5:30, and Houghton takes on Hancock at 8:00. Our coverage will begin around 5:10 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team ended its season with a 4-1 loss to Bemidji State in the quarterfinals of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association tournament Saturday night.

Northern Michigan University earned a berth in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Final Four by clubbing 13th-ranked Bowling Green 5-1 yesterday. The Wildcats won the series two games to one. Northern will face top-seed Minnesota State in a single-game semifinal Friday afternoon. Lake Superior State and Bemidji State will play in the other semifinal Friday evening.

College Basketball

The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team advanced to the championship game at the NCAA Division II basketball regional by defeating Southern Indiana 81-69 last night. The second-seeded Huskies got 24 points from Owen White, and 17 each from Trent Bell and Dawson Bilski. Tech will face top-seeded Truman University tomorrow evening at 8:00 for the regional championship.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 last night. Anthony Mantha scored Detroit’s only goal with 10 seconds left in the game. Jonathan Bernier made 30 saves.

The Wings host the Hurricanes again tomorrow. Coverage begins at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons host the San Antonio Spurs tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers downed the Baltimore Orioles 5-1 in Grapefruit League play yesterday. Spencer Turnbull gave up a run on three hits over four innings. Zach Short and Akil Baddoo homered.

The Tigers play the Toronto Blue Jays this afternoon. Matthew Boyd is scheduled to start for Detroit.

In Cactus League action, the Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Seattle Mariners 5-4 yesterday. Brad Boxberger was charged with all five Seattle runs in the fifth inning.

The Brewers will face the San Diego Padres this afternoon. Brett Anderson is scheduled to start.
