MTU, LSSU Advance to GLI Final – Monday Sports Wrap

The Michigan Tech hockey team will face Lake Superior State University in the title match of the Great Lakes Invitational Tournament today.

The Huskies advanced by winning a shootout after playing to a 2-2 tie with the University of Michigan yesterday. Alec Broetzman and Brian Halonen scored for Tech. Robbie Beydoun stopped a career-best 36 shots. Jake Lucchini and Tommy Parrotino scored in the shootout.

The Lakers defeated Michigan State University 4-3 in overtime in the other semifinal.

Tech and Lake Superior State will face off in the championship match at 2:30 this afternoon. Michigan and Michigan State will meet in the consolation game at 11:30 this morning.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings will host the Florida Panthers tonight. Coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons’ late comeback fell just short, as they lost to the Orlando Magic 109-107 yesterday afternoon. Detroit made up a nine-point deficit in the closing minutes, tying the game when Reggie Bullock sank three free throws with 2.5 seconds remaining. Evan Fournier’s shot at the buzzer was the game-winner for Orlando. Luke Kennard led Detroit with 15 points. The Pistons visit the Milwaukee Bucks tomorrow night. NFL
The Detroit Lions pounded the Green Bay Packers 31-0 in the final game of the season for both teams yesterday. Matthew Stafford completed 20 of 32 passes for 266 yards and two touchdowns. Kicker Matt Prater threw a touchdown pass on a fake field goal play. Zach Zenner rushed for 93 yards and a score. Aaron Rodgers was forced from the game early because of a concussion. Backup DeShone Kizer completed just 16 of 35 passes for 132 yards and an interception.

The win dropped the Lions to the eighth position in this spring’s NFL draft. The Packers have the 12th pick.
