MLB – Tigers Fall, Brewers Win in 13th
Michael Brantley’s second home run of the game powered the Cleveland Indians past the Detroit Tigers 7-5 last evening. The Tigers had tied the seesaw battle with two runs in the top of the eighth inning, before Brantley’s blow in the bottom of the inning decided it. Alfredo Simon was effective early, but wound up allowing five runs before leaving in the seventh. Blaine Hardy took the loss in relief. Game details are here.
The Tigers continue that series at Cleveland this evening. Justin Verlander will start against Cody Anderson. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
Rumors are swirling that the Tigers are planning to fire manager Brad Ausmus at the end of the season. WDIV television in Detroit quotes a team source as saying the decision has already been made. Former Twins manager Ron Gardenhire is being mentioned as the frontrunner for the job.
Logan Schafer singled home the winning run, as the Milwaukee Brewers got past the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4 in 13 innings. Milwaukee had made a bid to win it in the top of the 12th, when Ryan Braun drove in a run with a single. Pittsburgh’s Gregory Polanco tied it with a home run off Francisco Rodriguez in the bottom of the inning. Ironically, Rodriguez got the win. Kyle Lohse got the save. Game details are here.
The Brewers continue that set at Pittsburgh tonight. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Charlie Morton.
