MTU Hoops Teams Win
Both Michigan Tech basketball teams earned wins against Lake Erie last night. The Tech men’s team got 24 points from Ben Stelzer, and held off the Storm 82-78. The teams combined to sink 26 three-pointers. The Huskies hit seven of eight free throws in the closing seconds to secure the victory.
The Tech women’s team used a smothering defense to shut down the Storm 75-35. Morgan Anderson led a balanced Huskies’ attack with 14 points.
Both Tech teams entertain Ashland tomorrow. The women’s game tips off at noon, and the men’s game at 2:00, at the SDC.
The Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan hockey teams play a home-and-home series this weekend. Tonight’s game starts at 7:07 in Marquette. Tomorrow’s face-off is at 7:37 at MacInnes Arena.
Both NMU Hoops Teams Fall
Both Northern Michigan University hoops teams lost to Ashland last night. The men’s team fell 65-52. The women’s team fell behind early… mounted a late comeback… but lost 72-66. Former Baraga boys’ and girls’ coach Mariah Dunham is filling in as coach of the Wildcats’ women’s team while head coach Troy Mattson completes a four-game suspension. Both NMU teams host Lake Erie tomorrow afternoon.
Finlandia Men’s Hockey Traveling
The Finlandia University men’s hockey team skates at Gustavus Adolphus tonight, and at St. Olaf College tomorrow night.

– The Portage Lake Pioneers host the Eagle River Falcons tomorrow night at 7:30 and Sunday at 1:00 at Dee Stadium.

NHL – Red Wings Prepare for Capitals
The Detroit Red Wings skate at Washington tomorrow night.
NBA – Pistons Ready for Hawks
The Detroit Pistons host the Hawks tonight. Tip-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
NFL Divisional Playoffs
The NFL Divisional Playoffs will be held this weekend. Tomorrow, the Ravens play at New England at 4:35, and the Panthers kick off at Seattle at 8:15. On Sunday, the Packers host the Cowboys at 1:05, and the Colts play at Denver at 4:40. Hear all four games on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
Otter Lake Fishing Tourney Planned
The Otter Lake Sportsmen’s Club is holding its annual Jamie Markle Memorial Ice Fishing Tournament tomorrow on Otter Lake. Ice fishing starts at dawn, and ends at 4:00 pm. The weigh-in and after-party will be held at the clubhouse in Tapiola. You can pay the $6.00 entry fee today at Kurt’s Korner Store or Karvakko’s Market, or at the OLSC Clubhouse until noon tomorrow.
