Both Michigan Tech basketball teams earned victories over Northern Michigan University last night.

The MTU men’s team used a strong finish to close out a 61-52 victory over Northern. Owen White led a balanced attack with 18 points. Dawson Bilski scored 13, and became the 30th men’s player in Tech history to amass 1,000 career points. Dolapo Olayinka of the Wildcats led all scorers with 20 points.

Michigan Tech forward Arvid Caderoth has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week. Caderoth led WCHA rookies with three points over the weekend. He scored his first collegiate goal in Monday’s win over Northern Michigan.

MLB
The Detroit Tigers have found the veteran catcher they were looking for. Wilson Ramos has agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract. He’s a two-time all star, but hit just .239 with five home runs in 45 games for the New York Mets last season.
The newest members of the Baseball Hall of Fame are: nobody. None of the players on this year’s ballot received the necessary 75 percent support from the voters from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Curt Schilling was the closest, falling 16 votes shy. Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens were also turned down again. Bonds and Clemens are tainted by charges they used performance enhancing drugs. Schilling has caused controversy since his retirement with hate-filled statements about Muslims, transgendered individuals, and others.
The Hall of Fame’s Era Committee has decided not to hold a vote this year, so there will be no 2021 inductees. There will be a ceremony, though. After last year’s induction was postponed because of COVID-19 concerns, the 2020 inductees will be honored this summer.
NFL
The Detroit Lions have hired Dave Fipp as their new special teams coordinator. He held that same job with the Philadelphia Eagles for the past eight seasons.
