• Garnet Garage plays REL-Mohawk Technology at the Driving Park.

Slow Pitch Softball

In Copper Country Slow Pitch Softball League play last evening…
• Bucko’s/Labatts defeated Auto Pro/Thermoanalytics 15-8, then lost to Amy J’s 31-17.
• McGann’s/Northern Auto downed Sayen’s Auto/Coca Cola 27-17, and then defeated Downtowner Two 19-10.

Fast Pitch Softball

In Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League action last night…
• JB’s grabbed a quick lead, and cruised past Superior National Bank 6-1. Stella Soumis earned the win, with Grace Brunet in relief. Clea Olanketo had a triple for JB’s, Stella Soumis had a double, and Sadie Biekkola had two singles. For Superior National Bank, Rachel Huotari and Janie Berg each had a double.
• REK blanked Superior Service 10-0. Delaney Heinonen was the winning pitcher with relief from Emily Peterson. Heinonen also had a couple of hits.
• Tervo Agency outscored Northern Michigan Land Brokers 13-9. Lilly Turner had four singles for Northern Michigan Land Brokers. Olivia Wakeham had four singles for Tervo Agency.

College Baseball

The Finlandia University baseball team has added a new member. Steven Fortune is a utility player from Spring, Texas.

College Basketball

Both Michigan Tech basketball teams have released their 2022-2023 schedules.

The women’s team will face Wisconsin-Green Bay in an exhibition game November 3, then open the regular season November 11 and 12 at the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament. See the full schedule here.

The men’s squad will open by hosting a crossover tournament November 11 and 12, although teams have not yet been announced. See the full schedule here.

Rivalry games against Northern Michigan for both teams will be played January 14 in Marquette, and February 25 in Houghton.

NHL

The National Hockey League amateur draft opens tonight. The Canadiens have the first pick, followed by the Devils. The Red Wings have the eighth pick in round one.

Rounds two through seven will be held tomorrow.

The Wings unveiled their 2022-2023 schedule yesterday. They’ll open at home against the Canadiens October 14.

MLB

The Tigers completed a sweep of their series against the Guardians with an 8-2 victory yesterday. Michael Pineda gave up two runs over five innings, and got the win. Kody Clemens homered.

The Tigers visit the White Sox tonight. Beau Brieske will pitch against Dylan Cease. Coverage will begin at 7:50 on 99.3 The Lift. 

Detroit has put yet another pitcher on the injured list. Wily Peralta strained a hamstring in Tuesday’s game.

The Brewers gave up two late runs, and fell to the Cubs 2-1 yesterday. Corbin Burnes gave up three hits over seven scoreless innings, but Chicago tied the game against Brad Boxberger in the eighth, and scored the game-winner off Josh Hader in the ninth.

The Brewers have today off, and host the Pirates tomorrow night.
