Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s basketball team pulled out a 77-74 victory over Olivet College last night. For the first time in team history, three players collected double-doubles. Julia Daavettila had 23 points and 10 rebounds. Lela Horne had 16 points and a dozen boards. Kelsie Richards scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Molly Berg nearly made it four double-doubles, with nine points and nine rebounds, and Taylor Pertile scored 14 points.
The Finlandia men’s hockey team returns to action with games tonight at Aurora University, and tomorrow at Lake Forest College.
MTU/NMU
The Ashland University women’s basketball team showed why it’s ranked number-one in the nation last night, with an easy 103-68 win over 13th-ranked Michigan Tech. The Eagles scored the first 11 points of the game, and the Huskies never threatened. Michelle LaFave led Tech with a career-high 17 points.
The Tech men’s team couldn’t hold an early lead, and dropped a 73-62 decision to Ashland last night. Kyle Monroe scored 21 for the Huskies.
Both Michigan Tech basketball teams host Tiffin tomorrow. The women’s game tips off at 1:00. The men’s contest starts at 3:00.
The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team defeated Tiffin 71-59 last evening. The Northern men defeated the Dragons 75-56. Both NMU teams host Ashland tomorrow.
Both the Michigan Tech and NMU hockey teams are in Nevada for the Ice Vegas tournament. The Huskies will face Boston College in the opening round tonight. The Wildcats will take on Arizona State. The consolation and championship matches will be played tomorrow.
GLHL
The Portage Lake Pioneers will play a home-and-home set against the West Bend Bombers this weekend. Tonight’s game will start around 9:00, after the Houghton High School match at Dee Stadium. Tomorrow night’s contest will be played in Wisconsin.
The Calumet Wolverines visit the Mosinee Papermakers tonight, and the Monroe Blues tomorrow night.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings entertain the Florida Panthers tonight. Coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons play at Philadelphia this evening. Andre Drummond remains questionable for tonight’s game. He’s recovering from bruised ribs suffered in practice earlier this week.
NFL
The NFL playoffs open this weekend, with the wild card games. Tomorrow, the Titans face the Chiefs at 4:20, and the Falcons play the Rams at 8:15. On Sunday, the Bills meet the Jaguars at 1:05, and the Panthers play the Saints at 4:40. We’ll cover all of the NFL playoff games through the Super Bowl on 99.3 The Lift.
