– Lake Linden-Hubbell remained unbeaten with a 69-52 win over Dollar Bay-Tamarack City.
– Houghton downed Calumet 47-36. Hunter Richards led the Gremlins with 13 points.
– Chassell downed Bessemer 64-51. Lars Daavettila scored 24 for the Panthers.
– Baraga got past Republic-Michigamme 62-56 in overtime.
– Ewen-Trout Creek overpowered L’Anse 66-32.
In high school hockey…
– Houghton fell to Hartland 6-5 Friday night.
– Hancock welcomes Hartland this afternoon.
– Calumet hosts Kingsford this afternoon.
– In the opening round of the Wisigan Cup tournament Friday night, L’Anse defeated Ashland 4-2, and Jeffers edged Hayward 2-1. Today, L’Anse meets Hayward at 1:00, and Jeffers plays Ashland at 3:00 at the SDC.
MTU
The 17th-ranked Michigan Tech hockey team gave up two late goals, and wound up in a 4-4 tie at 18th-ranked Bowling Green University Friday night. Tech led 4-2 until the Falcons scored two goals within 14 seconds with 12 minutes remaining in regulation to force the extra period. Dylan Steman scored twice for the Huskies. Jamie Phillips made 22 saves. Those teams meet in Ohio again tonight.
Both Michigan Tech basketball teams play at Lake Superior State this afternoon.
NMU
Robbie Payne’s power play goal with five minutes remaining in the third period lifted the Northern Michigan University hockey team to a 4-3 victory over Minnesota-Duluth Friday night. Those teams play again tonight in Marquette.
Both Northern Michigan University basketball teams visit Northwood today.
Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s basketball team remained winless with a 78-50 loss to St. Scholastica Friday night. Brooke Turin scored 17 for the Lions, and Julia Daavettila added 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Finlandia men’s team led by a point at halftime, but eventually fell to St. Scholastica 81-74. Jordan LaPlant had 21 points. Terrance Fuller contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds. Both Finlandia teams host Wisconsin-Superior today. The men’s tip-off is at 4:00, and the women’s at 6:00 at the Paavo Nurmi Center.
The Finlandia men’s hockey team lost to Northland College 4-1 Friday night. Thomas Clayton scored the Lions’ only goal. Those teams face each other again tonight in Ashland. The women’s team hosts Concordia University tonight at 7:15, and tomorrow afternoon at 2:15 at the Houghton County Arena.
GLHL
The Calumet Wolverines lost 5-4 to the Fond du Lac Bears Friday night. The Wolverines host the De Pere Deacons tonight at 7:30 at the Calumet Colosseum.
The Portage Lake Pioneers host Fond du Lac tonight at 7:30, and De Pere Sunday afternoon at 12:30 at Dee Stadium.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers 114-106 Friday night. Andre Drummond led Detroit with 20 points. The Pistons play at Toronto tonight. Tip-off is at 6:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
NFL
The NFL Pro Bowl will be played tomorrow evening at 7:00. Hear the broadcast on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has confirmed that he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery after the team’s playoff loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He says his recovery is “on schedule.” It’s not known exactly when the injury occurred, but it may have happened when he was hit by by Detroit Lions defensive end Ezekiel Ansah on November 15th.
