Blake Pietila stopped 43 shots, as the Michigan Tech hockey team upset sixth-ranked Minnesota State 3-1 last night. Logan Ganie put the Huskies on the board late in the first period. Eric Gotz’ power play tally early in the second was the game-winner. The Mavericks didn’t solve Pietila until Dallas Gerads found the net with 76 seconds remaining. Brian Halonen’s empty-netter with four seconds left sealed the win.
Tech and MSU play again tonight at 5:07 at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, fans will not be admitted to the games.

The Detroit Lions engineered a late comeback to defeat the Chicago Bears 34-30 yesterday. The Lions trailed by 10 points in the closing minutes, but Matthew Stafford’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Jones with 2:24 remaining put them within reach. Three plays later, Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky fumbled as he was sacked by Romeo Okwara. John Penisini recovered the ball at the Chicago seven-yard line. That led to Adrian Peterson’s second rushing touchdown of the afternoon, a five-yard run with 1:42 remaining. Stafford threw for 402 yards and three scores.
The Green Bay Packers cruised past the Philadelphia Eagles 30-16 yesterday. Both Philadelphia touchdowns came in the fourth quarter. Aaron Jones sealed the win with a 77-yard scoring run in the closing minutes. Aaron Rodgers threw for 295 yards and three touchdowns, including the 400th of his career.
There will be two NFL games tonight. The long-delayed postponement of the week four contest between the Steelers and Washington will kick off at 5:00. The regular Monday night game between the Bills and 49ers will start at 8:15 on 99.3 The Lift. Tomorrow, the Ravens and Cowboys will complete week 13 by making up the game that was originally scheduled for last Thursday. That contest will also be broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
