MTU Hockey Bests LSSU – Saturday Sports Wrap

High School

Calumet entertains Glen Lake in the Division Six regional football championship game this afternoon. Pregame coverage begins at 12:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com. The winner will play either Montague or Sanford-Meridian next week in the semifinals.

Finlandia

The Finlandia University men’s hockey team lost 7-0 at Adrian College last night. The Lions were outshot 59-11. Those teams play again this afternoon.

The Lions women’s hockey squad dropped a 6-3 decision at Aurora University last night. All three Lions goals came in the third period, with Kylee Hopp scoring two of them. FinnU was outshot 49-15.

The Finlandia women’s basketball team opened the Hope College Tip-off Tournament in Holland with an 87-26 loss to the host Flying Dutchmen last night. The Lions will play Saint Mary’s of Indiana today.

The Finlandia men’s basketball team plays at Lawrence University today.

The Finlandia football team wraps up its season at Alma College this afternoon. 

GLIAC

The Michigan Tech volleyball team downed Lake Superior State University 3-1 (25-16, 25-20, 23-25, 25-19) last night. It was Tech’s 18th straight win over the Lakers. The 22nd-ranked Huskies close their regular season at Saginaw Valley State University today.

The MTU women’s basketball team lost a tight 65-61 game to Saint Cloud State University last night in the opening match of the Minnesota State-Morris Tournament. Former Houghton standout Sloane Zenner led a balanced Huskies attack with 12 points. The Huskies will play the host team today.

The Tech men’s basketball squad plays at Winona State University tomorrow afternoon.

The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team will play at Minnesota-Duluth today.

The NMU men’s team is at a tournament at Minnesota-Duluth, where they lost to the host Bulldogs 84-62 last night, and will face Southwest Minnesota State University today.

The Michigan Tech football team wraps up its season against Northwood University today at 1:00 at Sherman Field.

The NMU football team concludes its campaign on the road at Ashland University.

WCHA

The Michigan Tech hockey team took an early lead, and skated past Lake Superior State University 4-2 last night. Trenton Bliss scored twice for the Huskies. Matt Jurusik stopped 23 shots. Those teams play again tonight in the Soo.

The NMU hockey squad edged Alaska Fairbanks 2-1 last night. Those teams meet again tonight in Marquette.

GLHL

The Portage Lake Pioneers and the Calumet Wolverines are both off this weekend.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings visit the San Jose Sharks tonight. Coverage begins at 10:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons were plagued by turnovers again, and dropped their fourth straight game last night, 109-106 to the Charlotte Hornets. Malik Monk’s last-second three-pointer won the game for Charlotte. Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose returned to the lineup, but it was Langston Galloway who led Detroit with a career-best 32 points.

The Pistons are off until Wednesday, when they visit the Chicago Bulls.

NFL

In the NFL tomorrow, the Detroit Lions host the Dallas Cowboys in a 1:00 game on 99.3 The Lift. Matthew Stafford will miss his second straight game because of broken bones in his back.

The Green Bay Packers are off this weekend.
