MLB

Jake Rogers hit two home runs, as the Tigers edged the Rangers 2-1 last night. Tarik Skubal turned in six innings, and gave up the only Texas run. Beau Brieske got the win in relief.

The Tigers continue that series at Texas tonight. Jack Flaherty will pitch against Dane Dunning. Coverage will begin at 7:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

Prospect Justyn-Henry Malloy made his major league debut in last night’s game. He was called up after Spencer Torkelson was sent down to Toledo to work on his batting. Buddy Kennedy was designated for assignment to make room for Malloy on the 40-man roster. Detroit also released Keston Hiura, the former Brewer who had signed on as a minor league free agent this spring.

Detroit will retire Jim Leyland’s uniform number 10. The former manager will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame next month. The retirement ceremony will take place in August.

The Brewers suffered a 3-1 loss to the Phillies. After Jared Koening pitched the opening inning, Bryse Wilson took over. He gave up all three Philadelphia runs before leaving in the seventh. Rhys Hoskins homered for Milwaukee.

The Brewers visit the Phillies again tonight.

Milwaukee’s depleted starting rotation is in danger of losing yet another member. Robert Gasser reported elbow stiffness after Saturday’s start against the White Sox. He’s being evaluated.
