High School

MLB
Justin Verlander collected his first major league run batted in yesterday, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Colorado Rockies 6-2. Verlander’s fourth career major-league hit was a single up the middle in the second inning, that drove home James McCann with Detroit’s first run. McCann later slugged a three-run homer. On the mound, Verlander gave up one run over six innings, and struck out nine.

The Tigers have today off, and play an afternoon-evening doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians tomorrow. Hear both games on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers broke open a 3-3 tie with three runs in the sixth inning, yesterday, and held on for a 6-5 victory over the Saint Louis Cardinals. Domingo Santana and Jonathan Villar homered. Keon Broxton ended the game by reaching over the center field fence to rob Randal Grichuk of a two-run homer that would have put the Cardinals back on top.

The Brewers host the Washington Nationals tonight. Zach Davies will pitch against Gio Gonzalez.

The Cubs won, and continue to lead the Brewers by three-and-a-half games in the American League Central Division. The Cardinals are now six games out.

MTU
The Michigan Tech football team opens its schedule tonight at home against Truman State. It’s the first game for new head coach Steve Olson. Kickoff is at 7:00 at Sherman Field.

The Tech volleyball team begins its season on the road at Hillsdale this evening.

NFL
The Detroit Lions wrap up their exhibition season tonight against the Bills at Buffalo. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.

The Green Bay Packers conclude their preseason campaign at home against the Los Angeles Rams tonight.
