MLB

The Tigers got just four hits in a 7-1 loss to the Royals last night. Keider Montero gave up three runs in the first inning, then settled down and allowed just one more as he pitched through the seventh. Detroit’s only run came in the fourth, on a sacrifice fly by Bligh Madris.

The Tigers host the Royals again tonight. Tarik Skubal will start against Cole Ragans. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

After trading Andrew Chafin and Jack Flaherty before the deadline earlier this week, the Tigers have brought two pitchers up from Toledo. Brenan Hanifee pitched in three games for Detroit last season. Sean Guenther hasn’t appeared in the majors since a brief term with the Marlins in 2021. He’s been working his way back from Tommy John ligament replacement surgery.

Javier Báez has also rejoined the team, after a few days away on family business. He’ll fill the spot left by the departure of Mark Canha.

The Brewers had yesterday off, and visit the Nationals tonight. Frankie Montas will make his first Milwaukee start against Jake Irvin.

Following the Huskies, Northern Michigan was projected to finish sixth, with conference newcomer Roosevelt University rounding out the standings.

Tech opens its season early, August 29th at Bemidji State. NMU hosts Minnesota Duluth that same day.
