College Football

The Michigan Tech football team scored 20 points in the fourth quarter, and upended Upper Iowa 34-31 Saturday afternoon. The Huskies rushing attack ground out 204 yards. Alex Fries tossed three interceptions, but also connected with Ethan Champney on a 73-yard touchdown play early in the fourth quarter to narrow the gap to seven points. Champney then hit Brandon Michalak with an 18-yard option pass to tie the contest. Drew Wyble’s 30 yard field goal with 36 seconds remaining won the game.

The Northern Michigan football team lost a 45-27 shootout at Quincy University Saturday.

College Volleyball

The Michigan Tech volleyball team won the first set, dropped the next two, then came from behind to shade Purdue Northwest 3-2 (25-14, 21-25, 9-25, 27-25, 15-10) Saturday. Rachel Zurek recorded a season-best 15 kills. Lindy Oujiri added 14 kills. Tess Hayes had 33 assists and 17 digs.

The Northern Michigan volleyball squad fell 3-1 at Parkside Saturday.

College Soccer

The Tech soccer team visits Ferris State today.

The Northern women’s soccer team plays at Saginaw Valley State today. The Northern men’s soccer team competes at Parkside.

MLB

The Tigers dropped a 4-1 decision to the Athletics Saturday. After taking over from opener Miguel Díaz, Joey Wentz pitched through the seventh, gave up two runs on three hits, and took the tough loss. Detroit batters struck out 13 times. The Tigers loaded the bases in the eighth and ninth innings, but couldn’t score. The loss officially eliminated Detroit from the playoffs.

The Tigers visit the Athletics again today. Eduardo Rodriguez will start against J.P. Sears. Coverage will start at 3:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers fell to the Marlins 5-4. Carlos Santana hit a three-run homer.

The Brewers visit the Marlins again today. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Edward Cabrera.

The Cubs won, so Milwaukee’s lead in the National League Central Division falls to seven games over Chicago. Any combination of one Brewers win or Cubs loss gives the division title to Milwaukee.

NFL

The Lions host the Falcons in a 1:00 game today on 99.3 The Lift.

The Packers entertain the Saints in a 1:00 game today.

The Raiders host the Steelers in tonight’s contest on 99.3 The Lift.
