High School
In high school hockey yesterday…
• Jeffers claimed a 3-2 victory at Lakeland High School in Minocqua. Benton Rajala, Trayton Helminen and Cody Turner scored for the Jets, who improve to 7-1-1 on the season.
In girls basketball yesterday…
• Baraga fell to Negaunee 63-48 in the championship game at the Negaunee Holiday Tournament.
College Hockey
Michigan Tech won the title at the 57th Great Lakes Invitational hockey tournament in Grand Rapids yesterday with a thrilling shootout win over seventh-ranked Michigan State. The teams ended regulation tied 3-3, with all of the Huskies’ goals scored by Jack Works. After a scoreless overtime, Ryland Mosley netted the only tally in the shootout. Blake Pietila stopped a career-high 54 shots. The result will enter the record books as a tie, but the John MacInnes Trophy will have Tech’s name as the 2023 champions. Works was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, and Blake Pietila, Chase Pietila and Mosely were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Alaska edged Ferris State 3-2 in the consolation match.
Michigan Tech and Michigan State will be joined by Northern Michigan and Western Michigan in next year’s GLI.
College Basketball
The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team welcomes Algoma University today at 1:00.
The Northern Michigan men’s team hosts Ripon College this afternoon.
GLHL
The Portage Lake Pioneers edged the Calumet Wolverines 5-3 last evening. Those teams play again tonight, with face-off at 6:00 at the Colosseum.
NHL
Lucas Raymond’s overtime goal lifted the Red Wings to a 5-4 victory over the Predators last night. Jake Walman scored twice during regulation, and Dylan Larkin and Alex DeBrincat also found the net. Alex Lyon returned from the injury list, and stopped 33 shots.
The Wings host the Bruins tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 4:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
With Lyon’s return, goaltender Michael Hutchinson was sent back down to Grand Rapids.
NBA
The Pistons entertain the Raptors tonight. With 28 straight losses in the book, a defeat this evening would set a new NBA all-time record.
Detroit will play without Isaiah Stewart for as much as two weeks. He strained a toe in the Pistons’ game against the 76ers on December 15th, and had played with the injury until giving way to Kevin Knox Thursday.

The Lions visit the Cowboys in an 8:15 game this evening, with coverage on 99.3 The Lift.
The Packers visit the Vikings tomorrow evening, with coverage on 99.3 The Lift.
