MTU 2017 Football Schedule Announced – Tuesday Sports Wrap

The Detroit Red Wings sank further into last place in the Atlantic Division with a 2-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres last night. Tomas Tatar scored Detroit’s only goal. Petr Mrazek made 28 saves. The Wings skate at Montreal tonight. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Detroit Pistons visit the Brooklyn Nets tonight.

Michigan Tech swept the WCHA Player of the Week awards after their double overtime win over Bowling Green in the league championship game Saturday. Shane Hanna was named Defensive Player of the Week – he scored the game-winning goal. Goaltender Angus Redmond was named Rookie of the Week after making 36 saves. Michael Neville was named Offensive Player of the Week – he had two assists in the game.

The Huskies will open the NCAA tournament against Denver Saturday at 1:00 in Cincinnati. The game will be televised on ESPNews. Tech is currently ranked 19th in the nation in the USCHO.com poll.

The Michigan Tech football team has expanded its schedule to 11 games next fall. The Huskies will open at home with a non-conference match against Truman State on Thursday evening, August 31st. They’ll follow with a non-conference match-up against former GLIAC opponent Hillsdale College. The annual match against northern Michigan University will be played at Sherman Field Saturday evening, September 30th. New GLIAC member Davenport University will visit Sherman Field on October 28th. In spring training baseball, Anibal Sanchez pitched four scoreless innings, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the New York Mets 5-1 yesterday. Sanchez gave up just two hits, and struck out five. Since making an adjustment to his delivery, Sanchez has thrown eight shutout innings. James McCann and Nicholas Castellanos homered. The Tigers have today off.

Reliever Warwick Saupold was among the Tigers’ roster cuts yesterday. He was assigned to Toledo.

The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off, and will face the Los Angeles Dodgers this afternoon.
