Steven Moya hit two home runs, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Seattle Mariners 5-1 last night. Moya went deep in the fourth and fifth innings. Miguel Cabrera also homered. Starter Michael Fulmer left the game in the fifth inning after he hit Norichika Aoki with a pitch to load the bases, and then hit Leonys Martin to bring in Seattle’s only run. Kyle Ryan worked out of the jam, and earned the win in relief.

The Tigers conclude that set against the Mariners this afternoon. Daniel Norris will make his first start of  the season for Detroit. Adrian Sampson will pitch for Seattle. Hear the first pitch at 1:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Oakland Athletics 4-2 yesterday. Scooter Gennett and Kirk Nieuwenhuis homered, and Junior Guerra gave up two runs over seven innings to get the win.

That Brewers are off today, and open a weekend set against the Washington Nationals tomorrow night. Zach Davies will pitch against Max Scherzer.

Copper Country Women’s Fast Pitch
In Copper Country Women’s Fast Pitch League softball last night, Mattila Rock and Dock lost to Northern Michigan Land Brokers 9-8, and the fell to Auto Pro Glass and Tire 10-0. Mattila took an early lead in the first game, but Northern came back with four runs in the fifth, and four more in the sixth. Hannah Hill was the winning pitcher and Sammi Jahfetson took the loss. Alex Jahfetson and Darla Mensch each had two singles and a double for Mattila. In the second game, Sarah Audette threw the shutout for Auto Pro, and Melissa Baker took the loss. Megan Yeo and Erin Gast each had three hits for Auto Pro.

Copper Country Twilight League
In Copper Country Twilight League baseball tonight…
– The Copper Country Miners face Dean Kangas-State Farm at the Dollar Bay field.
– Pat’s Food-Mosquito Inn meets Wolverine-Orbit at the Wolverine field.
Both games begin at 6:30.

NBA
The NBA amateur draft will be held tonight. The Detroit Pistons have the 19th and 49th picks.

Denise Marth Run, Walk, Roll
The 2016 Denise Marth Memorial Family Fun Run Walk and Roll will be held Saturday morning, beginning at the Whirl-I-Gig in L’Anse. Registration opens at 8:30, and the 5k trek along Keweenaw Bay to L’Anse Waterfront Park will begin at 9:30. Any form of human-powered transportation is welcome. The cost is $5.00 per person – children ages six and under participate for free. Proceeds will benefit the Baraga County Community Foundation. For more details, visit their Facebook page.
