In girls high school basketball action last night…
Calumet Copper Kings Logo– Unbeaten Calumet breezed past West Iron County 65-37.
– Houghton fell to Marquette 42-37.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell got past Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 44-37. Peyton Gast and Alexa Destrampe each scored 12 for the Lakes. Carli Daavettila of the Blue Bolts led all scorers with 16.
– Jeffers dumped Ewen-Trout Creek 69-31.
– Chassell defeated Watersmeet 55-37.
– Ontonagon downed Bessemer 57-31.

In last night’s only boys game, Houghton edged Kingsford 61-57.

The Lake Superior Conference Tournament will open tonight. Third-seeded L’Anse will face second-seeded Kingsford at 6:00. Top-seeded Jeffers will take on Negaunee at 8:00. The consolation and championship games will be played tomorrow.

Kylie Moxley scored 34 points, as the Michigan Tech women’s basketball team defeated Northwood 69-60 last night. Moxley set a school record by connecting on 15 field goals. The win clinched a GLIAC playoff berth for the Huskies, and kept them in a tie with Saginaw Valley State atop the GLIAC North Division.

The Tech men’s team fell to Northwood 73-63. Kyle Monroe led the Huskies with 13 points. The loss eliminates Tech from this year’s GLIAC tournament.

Both Tech teams welcome Lake Superior State tomorrow. The women’s game starts at 1:00, and the men’s game at 3:00.

The Michigan Tech hockey team skate at Bemidji State tonight and tomorrow night.

The MTU men’s tennis team plays at St. Cloud State tonight, and St. John’s in Minnesota tomorrow afternoon.

The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team won its fourth straight game last night, beating Lake Superior State 73-57. The men’s team fell to the Lakers 83-74. Both NMU teams host Northwood tomorrow.

The NMU hockey team entertains Alabama-Huntsville tonight and tomorrow night.

Both Finlandia University basketball teams host Northland College tomorrow. The women’s game begins at 4:00, and the men’s game starts at 6:00 at the Paavo Nurmi Center. It’s the final game of the season for the men’s team.

The Finlandia women’s hockey team wraps up its season with games at St. Scholastica tonight and tomorrow afternoon.

GLHL
The Portage Lake Pioneers host the West Bend Bombers tonight, and the Fox Cities Ice Dogs tomorrow night. Face-offs are at 7:30 at Dee Stadium.

The Calumet Wolverines entertain the Ice Dogs tonight, and the Bombers tomorrow night. Faceoffs are at 7:30 at the Colosseum.

The Detroit Red Wings Wings lost 6-3 to the Pittsburgh Penguins last night. Petr Mrazek gave up five goals, and was replaced by Jimmy Howard early in the third period. The Wings skate at Ottawa tomorrow night. Face-off is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Detroit Pistons return from the All-Star break tonight, when they play at Washington. Tip-off is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Pistons have sent back-up center Joel Anthony and a 2016 first-round draft pick to the Houston Rockets. They get seven-footer Donatas Motiejunas, who can play forward or center. He’s 25 years old, and has seen limited action this season while recovering from back surgery. He averaged 12 points per game last season. They also get guard Marcus Thornton, a six-year veteran who was averaging 10 points per game this season.

NFL
The Detroit Lions have told middle linebacker Stephen Tullock that he will be released. Tullock confirmed the news yesterday. There are also reports that the team will not make an offer to free agent safety James Ihedigbo.

MLB
The Detroit Tigers have signed a minor-league deal with former Mets closer Bobby Parnell. Parnell saved 22 games for New York in 2013 before undergoing Tommy John surgery.
