Finlandia Names First Football Coach
TIM DRISCOLL
Michigan Tech defensive coordinator and assistant head coach Tim Driscoll was introduced yesterday as Finlandia University’s first head football coach. Driscoll hopes the new program will give lots of area kids a chance they haven’t had until now:

And, as for the challenges of starting a program from scratch?

Driscoll will begin his job immediately… starting with recruiting the school’s first players.

Finlandia HelmetAthletic Director Chris Salani said Finlandia’s football program will play its first game at McAfee Field on September 5th, 2015, against Alma College. By that time, the University hopes to complete the next set of improvements at McAfee Field… which will include new bleachers, a pressbox, and locker facilities. Fundraising efforts to pay for that project continue.

MLB: Tigers Outslug White Sox
Miguel Cabrera broke out of his slump, and powered the Tigers to an 8-6 victory over the White Sox last night. Cabrera homered, and drove in three runs. Avila had three hits. Justin Verlander gave up two runs over seven innings to earn his third win. Chicago mounted a late comeback… scoring a run off Al Alburquerque in the eighth. Phil Coke gave up a three-run homer to Adam Dunn in the ninth. The Tigers continue that home set against the White Sox tonight. Drew Smyly will pitch against Andre Rienzo… who was recently brought up from the minors to fill in while Felipe Paulino is on the disabled list. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400, WCCY. Full details from yesterday’s game are here.

The Brewers left 11 runners on base, and fell to the Padres 2-1 in 12 innings. The loss wasted another strong start by Yovani Gallardo… who scattered five hits over seven innings. Chase Headley finally won the game for San Diego with a home run off Alfredo Figaro to lead off the 12th inning. The Brewers host the Padres again tonight. Kyle Lohse will start against Tyson Ross. Full details from last night’s game are here.

Finlandia Baseball Falls at Crown

Lepisto… but the Storm scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 2-1 victory. In the second game, Crown scored six runs in the fourth inning, en route to a 7-1 victory.

Game one details are here. Game two details are here.
