Morning Sports for Tuesday, April 15th:
Brewers’ Win Streak Ends
The Brewers’ nine-game win streak ended Monday night, with a 4-0 loss to the Cardinals. St. Louis starter Lance Lynn held Milwaukee to just three hits over seven innings… and reliever Carlos Martinez retired all six batters he faced in the eighth and ninth. Brewers’ starter Matt Garza was hurt by a couple of home runs… including one by former Tiger Jhonny Peralta. Full game details are here. That home set continues tonight. Marco Estrada will start against Shelby Miller.
The Tigers had yesterday off, and open a home series against the Indians tonight. Anibal Sanchez will start against Zach McAllister. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400, WCCY.
Finlandia Baseball Team Loses Two
The Finlandia University baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader at Minnesota-Morris yesterday. In the first game, the Lions took an early lead… but the Cougars scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning, and cruised to a 10-7 victory (details are here). Clint Zumer and Joe Richard each had three hits for Finlandia. In the second game, Morris scored nine runs in the sixth inning, to put an exclamation point on a 17-3 victory (details are here). Rian Highland drove in two runs for Finlandia. The Lions will play two this afternoon at Carleton College.
Red Wings Prepare for Playoffs
The Red Wings open the playoffs Friday night at Boston. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400, WCCY.
Former Red Wing Brendan Shanahan was introduced yesterday as the new President of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Shanahan had been working as the head of the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.
Pistons Confirm Dumars’ Departure
The Pistons close their season tomorrow night at Oklahoma City.
The team made official yesterday what had been rumored for days – Joe Dumars’ term as President of Basketball Operations is over. For now, Dumars will stay on as an advisor to the organization… but his responsibilities will not include any input into basketball operations.
