Tigers Blanked in San Diego
The Tigers’ West Coast woes continued with a 6-0 loss to the Padres Friday night. Rajai Davis’ sixth-inning single was the only Detroit hit off San Diego starter Andrew Cashner. Davis stole second, and then third… but Miguel Cabrera hit into a double play to end the inning. Rick Procello wasn’t sharp… giving up 10 hits and five runs before leaving in the seventh. The Brewers continued their torrid start with a 4-2 victory over the Pirates. Wily Peralta threw seven strong innings. Aramis Ramirez and Mark Reynolds homered. Full game details are here. The Brewers host the Pirates again tonight. Yovani Gallardo will pitch against Edinson Volquez.
Red Wings Fall to Hurricanes
The Red Wings dropped a 2-1 decision to the Hurricanes Friday night. It was the first victory for the Caolina franchise in Detroit since 1989, when they were the Hartford Whalers. Full game details are here. The Wings wrap up the regular season Sunday at Saint Louis.
Red Wings’ legend Ted Lindsay is recovering from heart surgery. The team says “Terrible Ted” had an aortic heart valve replaced on Wednesday. His family reports he doing well. Lindsay is 88. He, Sid Abel and Gordie Howe made up the famous “Production Line” in the late ’40s and early ’50s. He later served as Detroit’s General Manager.
Pistons Fade Late Against Bulls
The Pistons suffered another one of their late collapses, and lost to the Bulls 106-98. Detroit led by 18 points at halftime… but was outscored 36-18 in the fourth quarter. Andre Drummond had 26 points and 26 rebounds. Full game details are here. The Pistons play their next-to-last game of the season Sunday afternoon at home against Toronto.
MTU Tennis Team Defeats Findlay
The MTU men’s tennis team edged Findlay 5-4 on Friday. Full details are here. The Huskies host Ohio Dominican this morning at 10:00… and Tiffin Sunday morning at 10:00.
