Morning Sports for Monday, May 19th:
MLB: Tigers Sweep Bosox
The Tigers completed a sweep of their weekend series in Boston with a 6-2 victory over the Red Sox Sunday. Anibal Sanchez came back from the disabled list, and threw five innings of two-run ball. He finally earned his first win of the season. The Tigers got all the runs they needed in the third inning, on an rbi single by Miguel Cabrera, and a two-run homer by Victor Martinez. Torii Hunter also homered for Detroit. The Tigers have won six straight… and open a series at Cleveland tonight. Drew Smyly will face Corey Kluber. Hear the first pitch at 7:05 on AM 1400, WCCY.
The Tigers have announced that pitcher Robbie Ray will stay with the team a little longer than expected. Ray covered two starts for Sanchez while Sanchez was on the DL, and was expected to be sent back to Toledo. Instead, he’ll stay with the big club at least through Thursday, when he’ll start in place of Rick Porcello. Porcello will be given some extra rest to help him recover from some soreness in his left side.
Brewers’ Bats Quiet
The Brewers collected just three hits, while falling to the Cubs 4-2. Marco Estrada struggled through five innings, and allowed all of Chicago’s runs. The Brewers begin a series at Atlanta tonight. Wily Peralta will pitch against Mike Minor.
