MLB Owners Float New Proposal – Tuesday Sports Wrap

Finlandia

The Finlandia University baseball team has added another member. Andrew Andrade is a right-handed pitcher from Riverside, California.

Despite the state’s allowance of the reopening of gym and training facilities this week, Finlandia University’s Paavo Nurmi Center will remain closed, at least until August. School officials say they’re focusing on preparing facilities for the return of students late this summer. Memberships will be extended accordingly.

MLB

Major League Baseball team owners have made another proposal to the players to try to salvage part of the 2020 season. The deal would include a 76-game regular season. The playoffs would be expanded to as many as 16 teams. Players would be paid roughly 75 percent of their prorated salaries. In March, the players agreed to accept prorated salaries at 100 percent. There has been no immediate reaction from the players union, although some current and former players have been critical. Owners say they need a response by tomorrow, if games are to begin in early July.

NFL

Coaches will be allowed to return to the Detroit Lions training facility in Allen Park beginning tomorrow. The NFL has issued some basic protocol for the eventual return of players to training camps, but many specifics still need to be worked out.
