Minus Griffin and Kennard, Pistons Fall – Tuesday Sports Wrap

MLB

The Detroit Tigers were held to just two hits in a 3-1 loss to the New York Yankees last night. Tyson Ross gave up all three New York runs over five innings in his Detroit debut.

The Tigers play at New York again tonight. Jordan Zimmermann will start against Masahiro Tanaka. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Ryan Braun’s RBI double in the top of the ninth inning lifted the Milwaukee Brewers to a 4-3 victory the Cincinnati Reds last night. Zach Davies gave up two runs over five innings. Josh Hader earned his third save.

The Brewers visit the Reds again tonight. Jhoulys Chacín will pitch against Anthony DeSclafani.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings will host the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons lost 111-102 to the Indiana Pacers last night. Playing without the injured Blake Griffin and Luke Kennard, Wayne Ellingon led Detroit with 26 points. Despite the loss, Detroit remains in sixth place in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Pistons will host the Pacers tomorrow night.

Griffin missed his second straight game with a sore knee. Kennard was a late scratch with a sore foot.

NFL

The Detroit Lions have signed running back C. J. Anderson to a one-year contract. Anderson rushed for 1,000 yards for the Denver Broncos in 2017. He was released by the Carolina Panthers and Oakland Raiders last season, but was picked up by the Los Angeles Rams, and helped them reach the playoffs.

Little League

Keweenaw Little League will hold its final on-site registration session from 6:00 until 8:00 this evening at the Kings Corner entrance at the Calumet School. Families whose children wish to play this summer are strongly encouraged to sign up this evening, as the league’s online registration page is not working at this time. Player evaluations will be held April 27th. Players who sign up after that will be assessed a late fee.

Doghouse Tournament

Today is the sign-up deadline for the annual Doghouse Three-on-Three basketball tournament. The tourney will be held April 13th at the SDC. The cost is $80.00 for a four-person team. For full details and registration information, click here.

The Portage Lake Pioneers and the Calumet Wolverines will wrap up their season in the Gibson Cup series this weekend. Game one will be Friday at 7:30 at the Colosseum.
