WCHA
WCHA LogoMinnesota State University wants to leave the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. MSU President Richard Davenport confirmed yesterday that the program has applied for membership in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference. WCHA President Bill Robertson acknowledged that he has been informed of the potential move, says he’s “deeply disappointed,” and hopes to change that decision. The Mavericks were upset when they did not receive a bid to the NCAA tournament this past season, despite sharing the MacNaughton Cup with Michigan Tech. Ferris State received the WCHA’s only invitation. The move would also re-establish several traditional rivalries with other Minnesota schools that left the WCHA for the NCHC several seasons ago.

There is no guarantee that the NCHC will accept Minnesota State’s application. If it does, it would probably take at least a couple of seasons to complete the move.
